How can i adjust screen size?

i am using a 17 inch monitor but my graphics card is horrible, i am trying to adjust the screen size to use a smaller portion of the screen for gaming but when i adjust the resolution to say 600x480 it automatically adjusts to fit the screen so everything is just huge, theres no way to change screen size on the monitor, weird i know. How can i adjust screen size?
you have to change the screen size in the display properties by clicking on the display icon in the control panel....click on settings tab and adjust the slider to the resolution you want....1024x768 is the best looking resolution for a 17inch monitor....600x480 is going to make everything huge and give you a pretty terrible image...(fuzzy looking)......

***Update***if your running a ATI card adjust the game settings in the Catalyst Control Center and make a profile...if your running a nvidia card you should be able to do the same....if that still does not work somewhere in the game options there should be a setting to adjust the games resolution....I run Grid and NFS Shift like that...I adjust the resolution I want through the options in the games settings.....

it could also be that your video card does not support the resolution you want the game to run in.....if its a low end card that could be a possibility....How can i adjust screen size?
press CTRL +your mouse stroller and scroll back or forword depending on your liking
It sounds like you know how to change the screen resolution. The problem is that you're making the resolution smaller, which actually makes the screen bigger. The default screen resolution is 1024 X 768. The higher the numbers, the smaller the screen size.
