UBUNTU. Screen Size too small?

I just set my laptop up to run XP Pro and Ubuntu. In XP my screen function normally. In Ubuntu the screen does not have the whole viewing area. My computer is an IBM R30. I have tried changing the settings in the BIOS so that it will use the whole screen....this seams to work for xp but no ubuntu. All I need to do is change the screen size.......but there are no buttons to change the size manually. Does any one know how to fix this?UBUNTU. Screen Size too small?
If you are using a GUI (gnome, Kde) then you should be able to go to screen resolution settings.

Otherwise, at boot, you can add the vga=xxx to get a decent resolution
